The seminars scheduled for the Designer ShowHouse of Ideas, sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital and the Southeast Missouri State University interior design program, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The first seminar, "Five Characteristics of an Effective Gardener," will be given by horticulturist Joe Sherinski.
Marge Sullivan, director of Volunteer Services at Southeast Missouri Hospital, said Sherinski is an entertaining and knowledgeable gardener.
She said he takes gardening and landscaping information and makes it fun.
Starting at 12:30 p.m., "Designing With Color" is the second seminar and will be given by Katina Wahlers.
"That will be creative and effective color treatments to both enliven home interiors and also set moods for comfortable living," according to Sullivan.
"Window Treatments" with Robin Dial will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Sullivan said this is a two-part seminar with the first part discussing the color forecast for the next three years and the second topic will be ways to use that forecast in window treatments.
The next seminar is at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and is called "Kitchen Design/Upgrade" with Dan Fritsche.
Sullivan said Fritsche's specialty is kitchens and bathrooms.
"He has a way of looking at a space and retooling it so that it is not only beautiful, but highly functional and he will be talking about ways to create that result," Sullivan said.
The seminars begin again on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with "Nurturing Your Environment" led by Jill Chursciel.
"This will probably touch on feng shui and ways to design your environment for healthier living and to create more energy and at the same time have a restful environment," Sullivan said.
This event takes place at the former Gary and Wendy Rust home at 700 N. Pacific St. The seminar fee is included in the $12 ticket price.
