Two Cape Girardeau teenagers were shot at Sunday while stopped at the intersection of William and Benton streets, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
The 16- and 18-year-old boys were not hurt, although their car was damaged, according to Sgt. Jason Selzer, a spokesman for the police department.
Police responded to the scene around 11 a.m., where the victims said two men in a late 1990s blue van pulled up next to them at the stop sign. The passenger in the vehicle was the one who allegedly fired shots at the teens.
Police were given no additional information about the suspects, Selzer said, but investigators found shell casings at the intersection. He wouldn't release the caliber of the bullets.
"After the victims backed away, the other vehicle took off and left," Selzer said.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, police had not arrested anyone in connection to the incident and were still investigating.
One of the teenagers was cited for possession of a controlled substance, Selzer said, after officers found marijuana in the vehicle.
