POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Poplar Bluff man faces a weapons charge after he allegedly fired a shot through a window of his residence as a police officer stood at his front door Wednesday afternoon.
Poplar Bluff patrolmen David Sutton and Mike McCane were dispatched to Shawn Patrick Burkett's residence in the 1100 block of North 10th Street at about 4 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a domestic disturbance.
"As I began to push the door open, I heard a shot from within the residence and glass exploded outward from a window to our immediate right," Sutton said.
Authorities responded to the scene and blocked off the street. Burkett later surrendered was taken into custody without further incident.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful use of a weapon, on a Butler County failure to appear warrant and a municipal warrant for no seat belt.
Burkett, who is in the Butler County jail, was charged Thursday morning with the Class D felony of unlawful use of a weapon by Butler County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Barbour. His bond is set at $5,000 cash.
