Several Missouri sheriff's departments' patrol vehicles are sporting a new decal.
The U.S. motto "In God We Trust" is emblazoned on the vehicles, including those in Cape Girardeau County, thanks to a donation from a vendor at the Missouri Sheriff's Association Conference last week in Branson, Missouri.
The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department posted photos of the cars with the new decals on its Facebook page Tuesday. According to the post, the Missouri Sheriff's Association voted at the conference to approve the decals' placement on vehicles.
Because the decals were donated, their placement comes at no cost to taxpayers.
A message left at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department was not returned Tuesday afternoon.
Alona Sistrunk, communications and development associate with the American Civil Liberties Union, said in an email Tuesday the organization has "no comment at this time."
Bumper stickers with the motto recently have been placed on cars driven by police officers, sheriff's deputies and firefighters in Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina and other states, reported the Washington Post last week.
