KENNETT, Mo. — Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said Shane McCormick was shot Sunday afternoon by Kenneth Bowles after a fight at a home on Elm Street. McCormick later died at Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett.

Bowles has not been charged in relation to the shooting, but he was charged with assault relating to the victim’s mother, according to a news release from Holder.

The Kennett Police Department said when officers arrived, they found Bowles with a gun and McCormick suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers said Bowles was brought quickly into custody so emergency crews could treat McCormick.

During the investigation, officers learned a disturbance had occurred at the residence between Kenneth Bowles and the mother of the victim before the shooting. The victim’s mother had called her son to come pick her up. When McCormick got to the residence, he learned of the disturbance, and McCormick went into the residence and confronted Bowles about it. A fight between McCormick and Bowles ensued, and Bowles allegedly shot McCormick.
