Shelter of Hope, the Cape Girardeau homeless shelter, tonight will begin providing overnight lodging to homeless men at a temporary location, Rev. Bob Towner, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, announced.
Cots provided by the American Red Cross will be set up at Amazing Grace Worship Center in Gordonville, Towner said. The Salvation Army will provide food and Southside Baptist Church will provide a van to take homeless men to Gordonville for the night, he said in a news release.
Volunteers will meet the men at 8 p.m. at the Salvation Army headquarters, 701 Good Hope St. From there, the homeless will be moved to Gordonville and fed, Towner said.
Shelter of Hope's permanent location at 320 S. Sprigg St. continues to undergo renovations. The shelter's organizers still need money for building supplies, Towner said.
No information is available yet about how the organization will meet the needs of homeless women. For more information, check back at semissourian.com or read Sunday's Southeast Missourian.
