Three speakers will inform Cape Girardeau residents at a seminar March 10 and 11 at Cape County Cowboy Church in Oak Ridge how to protect themselves, according to a Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The sheriff’s department will host the seminar. Carl Chinn was a member of a security team at New Life Church in 2007 in Colorado when a gunman opened fire, killing two church patrons and wounding three others, according to the release. On March 10, Chinn will share the lessons learned the day of the shooting.

Also on March 10, retired police officer and minister Jimmy Meeks will address violence on church property and protecting children from sex crimes in places of worship, according to the release.

On March 11, former Army Lt. Col. Dave Grossman will talk about responses to violent attacks and the premise of “Sheepdogs,” according to the release. Sheepdogs protect most placid, peaceful people from dangerous wolves, according to Grossman’s definition.
