WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Sarah J. Hill, a senior at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, was chosen by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. as a Commended Student in the 1994 National Merit Scholarship program.

Over 1 million students entered the 1994 Merit program. About 35,000 were named Commended Students.

Hill was also named a State Scholar by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. About 10 percent of Illinois' high school seniors are designated State Scholars.

Selection is based on a combination of their ACT or SAT test scores and their class rank at the end of the junior year.

Hill is the daughter of Russel and Joyce Hill of McClure, Ill.
