VIENNA, Ill. -- Shawnee Community College President Jack D. Hill is expected to announce his candidacy for state representative of the 118th District during a rally at Vienna High School today.
Hill, a Republican, has been president of the Ullin college since 1991. He previously served as vice president for instructional services at John A. Logan College in Carterville, where he worked in various capacities from 1969 to 1991.
Today's Vienna rally will be held at 6 p.m., with a free barbecue meal and gospel sing, featuring the King's Harvesters, Southern Grace, Enloe Clemons, Rick Parks and the Victory Quartet.
The public is welcome and there is no admission charge.
Hill will be the first declared candidate for the 118th District position.
David Phelps, who is in his sixth term, has not officially declared his candidacy, but said Friday he will run for a seventh term.
