Investigators from the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety are investigating a reported sexual assault on the River Campus. Officers from the department responded at 2:10 a.m. Saturday to a call from an emergency call box on the campus, department director Doug Richards said. The victim, who is not a student, reported she was raped and investigators are working to determine the exact location of the assault, Richards said. The initial report is unclear on whether the assault took place in the main parking lot or closer to the base of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, he said. "There is a parking lot down there as well," he said. "What we are trying to do is establish the exact location." The victim was not able to give a detailed description of her assailant, he said. The assault was reported immediately after it occurred, he said. The investigation is ongoing. "We are just right in the middle of it," Richards said.
