Sexual assault reported at Cape residence

Cape Girardeau police are investigating a sexual assault that was reported early Wednesday morning. About 12:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a rape at a residence, said Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department. A female victim reported that an acquaintance who was at her residence forcibly had sexual contact with her, Hickey said. The suspect left the residence on foot before officers arrived, Hickey said. No one was in custody Wednesday in connection with the case, which remained under investigation, Hickey said.
