Sex offender from Jackson removes monitoring bracelet

A registered sex offender still is at large after removing his monitoring bracelet Friday.

Deputies from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office were notified by the Missouri Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole on Friday that Derek K. Kinder, 27, of Jackson, who is a registered sex offender, had removed his electronic GPS monitoring bracelet.

During the investigation, police found Kinder's bracelet had been removed and put in a Dumpster on South Park Avenue near Independence Street in Cape Girardeau.

Kinder is required to wear the device because of a conviction for child molestation and sexual misconduct involving a child.

According to previous reporting. Kinder was convicted as a sex offender in 2007 in Scott County with repeated sexual abuse of a young girl over a three-year period.

Kinder allegedly exposed himself to the girl when she was 5 and 7, and threatened violence if she did not participate in sexual contact.

When the victim was 10, Kinder allegedly began sexual abuse that lasted for more than a year.

Kinder also pleaded guilty in 2005 to sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 14.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued a warrant for Kinder's arrest for violating a condition of lifetime supervision with a total bond set at $35,000 cash or surety.
