Aquamsi Street near the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge remained closed to traffic Tuesday while a Cape Girardeau Public Works crew worked to repair a leak in a metal sewer line.

This is the second leak in the 24-inch sewer line since Friday, said Stan Polivick, assistant public works director.

The first leak was fixed Friday night. The second leak should be repaired and the street under the bridge should be reopened to traffic by this afternoon, he said.

The repair work occurred Tuesday just off the east edge of the city street. But Polivick said the street was blocked by dirt and equipment associated with the repair work.

Polivick said the riverfront street is not heavily traveled so the closing should have little impact on most area motorists.
