Seventh-Day Adventists welcome new pastor

The Cape Girardeau Seventh-Day Adventist Church has called a new pastor to serve the congregation.

John E. Howells IV was named new pastor for the church in an appointment by the Iowa-Missouri Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists.

He and his wife, Sandra, have two children.

The church welcomed the family Jan. 4 with a "pound the preacher" event that allowed members to donate a pound of food or paper items to stock their pantry.

The family relocated from Monroe, N.C., where Howell had worked to establish new churches.

Howell will lead both the Cape Girardeau church and Peace Point Chapel in Sikeston.

Seminary chorus to perform in Perryville

The Concordia Seminary Chorus will present a concert at 3:30 p.m. March 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Mo.

Jackson church to hold seminar for men

New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson will be holding a men's seminar March 28 and 29.

The "Success that Matters" seminar is designed to give men more biblical direction and help them find deeper purpose in life. Session topics include finding your purpose in life, finding respect and honor at home, finding a new best friend in you wife and finding a deeper personal relationship with God.

Registration is due by March 17 so that materials can be ordered. The $25 fee covers all materials, snacks and coffee and a breakfast.

Catholic bishop to visit St. Vincent's parish

The Rev. John J. Leibrecht, bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese, will visit St. Vincent de Paul parish in Cape Girardeau March 15.

He will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. at the church, at which time 54 candidates for confirmation will be presented.

Delta church to be site for revival

First Baptist Church of Delta will hold a revival March 15 to 19. Speaker is Steve Harness. Services will be at 7 p.m. nightly. Harness also will speak during the 10:45 a.m. worship service March 16.

Relationship seminar at Cape church by satellite

Cape Bible Chapel will host a relationship seminar March 15 via satellite connection.

The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m., and is open to all married and engaged couples. The seminar "Real Love in the Real World" is being presented live in Branson, Mo., but is being simulcast around the country.

Cost of the conference is $31 per couple and covers the broadcast and a lunch.

Presenters include Gary Smalley, Beth Moore, Dennis Rainey and Gary L. Chapman. It is a program designed to offer encouragement to couples interested in strengthening marriages.

Cape First planning March 16 open house

Cape First Assembly will hold a grand opening and open house March 16 at its new worship center.

The open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include tours of the facility, activities for children and fellowship. A dedication service will be at 6:30 p.m.

The church had formerly been worshipping at a location on Mount Auburn Road but had outgrown that facility. The church is now at 254 S. Silver Springs Road.

Study on Methodist beliefs offered

Two area churches will mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of John Wesley, founder of Methodism, by offering a study on Methodists.

The six-week study "Meet the Methodists" will begin March 12. Services will be at 10 a.m. each week at Trinity United Methodist Church in Oran and at 7 p.m. at Benton United Methodist Church. Topics for the program include Methodist history, Methodist beliefs and organization for missions.
