BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County deputies have arrested six men and one teenager in connection to a Friday incident that damaged a sheriff's department vehicle.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said while one of his deputies was patrolling in Haywood City a chunk of concrete was thrown at his vehicle, breaking the passenger side window.
"These boys were laying in wait for somebody, for a victim," Walter said. "I believe there was an earlier incident where I believe they were maybe trying to stop a vehicle and they had other things on their mind."
Meshaw Daniels, 21; Tyrell Banks, 17; Jeremy Gipson, 21; Caleb Johnson, 20; Charles McClinton, 17; Robert Jones, 21; and a juvenile were arrested for allegedly taking part in the rock throwing.
According to a probable-cause statement filed in the case, McClinton told police that while everyone in the group had chunks of concrete in their hands, Daniels was the only one who threw the concrete at the deputy's vehicle.
Daniels is charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer while the others are charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and first-degree property damage.
The deputy whose vehicle was damaged was not injured, although he told the investigating officer if the object would have been thrown about an inch more to the right it could have struck him in the face and may have caused him to wreck the vehicle.
