BROWNWOOD, Mo. -- A memorial service for Spc. James Burnett Jr., the Brownwood soldier killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan Nov. 16, is planned for Sunday at the old Advance, Mo., gymnasium on Route C.

BROWNWOOD, Mo. -- A memorial service for Spc. James Burnett Jr., the Brownwood soldier killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan Nov. 16, is planned for Sunday at the old Advance, Mo., gymnasium on Route C.

A receiving line at the gym will begin at 2 p.m. and last until 5 p.m., with the memorial service to follow. The memorial service will be open to the public.

The funeral for Burnett will take place at the Community Church of Christ in Loundes, Mo., at 2 p.m. Saturday. Seating is limited at the church, but ample seating will be available at the memorial service Sunday.

Burnett was killed in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province when the lead vehicle in which he was riding was hit by the blast of a roadside bomb.

Burnett is the son of Cheri and James Burnett Sr. of Brownwood and John and Rebecca Rogers of Wichita, Kan.
