The Jackson Senior Center has been honored with the Miles for Meals Award ever since 1997.
The award is in special recognition for outstanding fund-raising achievement for the Miles for Meals Walkathon, which helps to pay for the center's nutrition program.
Ila Niswonger was the recipient of this year's award. She collected $4,306 for the center.
Last year's recipient, Gilbert Leimer, received the Edna Hopkins Award, an award given in memory of Edna Hopkins, who at age 100, raised the most money in 1995 for the Jackson Senior Center Miles for Meals Walkathon. Leimer is recovering from an accident and received the award at his bedside.
"The summer months are a difficult time for the center because a lot of people who volunteer, go on vacation" says Debbie Stockton, the center's administrator. "We need volunteers desperately."
Volunteers often include families, church groups, Scout groups or students.
Volunteers can call the center at 243-4241 for information.
