Debbie Stockton, director of the Jackson Senior Citizens Center reports that "the Jackson Senior Center and the seniors served by the center, are very appreciative of the community support received during their sixth annual Miles for Meals Walk-a- Thon."
The event took in $10,888.05 that will be used for the center's nutrition program.
Ila Niswonger was awarded a $50 gift certificate for securing $4,301 in pledges. Gilbert Leimer received a $25 gift certificate for securing $3,082 in pledges.
Mayor Paul Sander had addressed the participants and challenged them to continue in their support of people 60 and older. Many individuals supported the walk-a-thon by volunteering as walkers and by contributing financially to walkers.
Courtney Corbett of the Pyramid Group assisted with the organization of supplies and equipment on the day of the event, and staff members of the Lutheran Home Health Services provided emergency and first aid services. Numerous senior citizens solicited contributions at the Jackson Food Giant, the Town and Country Food Mart, Wal-Mart and Buchheit's.
Volunteers are always needed at the center.
People 13 and older interested in volunteering can call Stockton at 243-4241.
