Southeast Missouri State University has announced its first course offerings in its new master of business administration (MBA) program being launched on campus this fall.
Classes will be held in the new Robert A. Dempster Hall, a 110,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art teaching facility, which will house the Donald L. Harrison College of Business when the building opens in August.
Four evening classes scheduled for 6 to 8:50 p.m. will be available, said Dr. Ken Heischmidt, director of the MBA program. All are three-credit-hour courses.
"Strategic Cost and Financial Applications" (BA510) will be taught each Tuesday by Dr. Gayle Rayburn, professor of accounting, finance and business law.
"Managing Quality" (BA640) will be taught on Wednesdays by Dr. Charles Wiles, professor of marketing, and Dr. Demetrius Karathanos, professor of management.
"Management Communication and Leadership" (BA600) will be taught on Thursdays by Dr. Patricia Karathanos, associate professor of administrative services.
"External Environment of Business" (BA660) will be taught on Mondays by Dr. Rebecca Summary, professor of economics.
Students admitted to the MBA program must have an undergraduate degree in business or the equivalent from an accredited institution. Students without this undergraduate knowledge base in business and economics will be admitted to the program after successfully completing necessary background course work. Students also must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75.
Additional information concerning admittance to the program, is available by calling the Donald L. Harrison College of Business at (573) 651-2112 or the School of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning at (573) 651-2192.
The 33-credit hour MBA program is being launched in response to needs expressed during several strategic planning forums held throughout the region in late 1994.
Students also may complete an accounting track within the MBA program and then will be academically qualified to sit for the national CPA exam, which, beginning in November 1999, will carry with it a prerequisite of 150 hours of university course work.
