Southeast Missouri State University has joined with other public universities in Missouri to offer a doctorate in education administration.
Representatives from the University of Missouri, Central Missouri State, Northwest Missouri State, the University of Missouri-Rolla and Southwest Missouri State University officially signed the agreement with Southeast.
The signing ceremony followed the inauguration of Dr. Dale Nitzschke as Southeast's 16th president last week. Dr. Kala Stroup, Missouri's commissioner of higher education, also attended the signing ceremony.
The Doctor of Education program was approved by Stroup last December. It earlier was endorsed by the University of Missouri Board of Curators in August.
The new doctoral program is administered by the University of Missouri-Columbia. It will be available to Southeast students beginning this summer.
Nine Southeast students have been accepted into the program, officials at the Cape Girardeau school said. Six are school administrators in Southeast Missouri.
Students will begin the program at UMC. Southeast students will then return to Cape Girardeau where they will take courses from Southeast instructors, beginning this fall.
Students will return to UMC for classes during the summer of 1998, and then return to Southeast for classes during the 1998-99 academic year. Students will finish the program by completing a dissertation, Southeast officials said.
