Derek Hudson, president of Alpha Phi Alpha at Southeast Missouri State University, was named "Brother of the Year" for Missouri during the fraternity's statewide convention recently.
Hudson, who was among four statewide candidates, now advances to the Alpha Phi Alpha Midwest Regional Convention in April in Kentucky. The winner at that competition advances to the national level.
Hudson served in Student Government at Southeast during the 1992-93 school year. He was president of the Association of Black Collegians at Southeast from 1990 to 1992. He is working on the Southeast campus in the Office of Student Affairs as part of a National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Fellowship he received.
Hudson is the son of Shirley Hudson of Jennings. He is majoring in mass communications with an option in public relations.
