Southeast Missouri State University has 7,520 students enrolled this semester, an increase of 35 over a year ago.
The final census, compiled after the first four weeks of the spring semester, shows an increase of 203 students over the first-day headcount, school officials said.
The university has 6,679 undergraduate students, up 85, or 1 percent from a year ago. It has 841 graduate students, down 50, or 6 percent from spring 1995.
Total freshman headcount stands at 1,538, up 145 or 9 percent from a year ago. Southeast has 1,368 sophomores, down 69, or 5 percent; 1,466 juniors, down 9, or 1 percent; and 1,837 seniors, down 20, or 1 percent.
Art Wallhausen, assistant to the president at Southeast, said Tuesday that school staff haven't had a chance to analyze the numbers.
Wallhausen said school officials aren't sure why enrollment has declined in some areas. Still, overall enrollment has increased. "We don't at this point see any cause for alarm," he said.
