A Civil War program featuring Dr. Frank Nickell as speaker will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mississippi County Historical Society's Moore Home at 403 N. Main St. in Charleston, Mo.

Nickell is a professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University, where he serves as director of the Center for Regional History. His speech will provide an overview of the Civil War action throughout the region. In his view, the Civil War in the Mississippi Valley is the one of the most dramatic stories in American history.

Those with a story about an ancestor who was in the Civil War are invited to come and share their information.

The society will also recognize the Deal collection received from the Dorothy Bihr Bruce estate and recently acquired scrapbooks received from the Danforth family. Both include local and regional information from the 1800s and 1900s.

The event is free and open to the public.
