Individuals interested in learning more about computers and computer programs may register for beginning classes offered by Southeast Missouri State University.

The university has been teaching college students basic and advanced computer skills for at least 15 years. Similar classes are available this fall for individuals who aren't enrolled at Southeast.

"Part of the fulfillment of the university's strategic plan is to reach out to the community," said Dr. Patricia Karathanos, chairman of the department of administrative services. "We feel that we have something special to offer which is very much in demand -- computer skills. Anyone is welcome to attend. We're teaching the basics."

Classes are held in the new Dempster Hall of Business and taught by university professors in the department of administration.

All the classes are hands-on. Participants will each have a Pentium computer to use. One continuing education unit will be given for each six-hour session completed.

All sections cost $75. Participants may keep their textbook for practice at home.

Classes offered this fall include Introduction to Windows and the Internet, Microsoft Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, Making Presentations with PowerPoint 4.0 and Microsoft Access 2.0.
