SIKESTON Mo. -- Sikeston's superintendent of public schools, Steve Borgsmiller, has been named as the new director of Southeast Missouri State University's Sikeston campus.
Borgsmiller will start in his new position in early July, according to a news release from the university. The center's current director, Judy Buck, is set to retire June 28 after 14 years.
Before his 11 years as superintendent at Sikeston, Borgsmiller was Sikeston's city manager for eight years and worked 19 years as a principal, assistant principal and a classroom teacher. He earned a master's degree in education from Southeast and has completed coursework toward a doctoral degree in educational leadership at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He is also a member of numerous organizations and associations related to education.
Borgsmiller was out of the Sikeston's district office Friday when a call was made for comment on when a search for a new superintendent will begin.
His responsibilities in the position will include management of operations; growth and development of the campus; supervision of faculty and staff; stewardship of endowed scholarships, resources, budgeting, facilities and technology management; and continued development of partnerships with community organizations and businesses, according to the release.
