Last year it was Willie; this year it's Waylon who will headline the SEMO District Fair.

Country music stars Waylon Jennings, Billy Ray Cyrus and Terri Clark will perform during the fair, which will be held Sept. 12 to 18 at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau.

Jennings is to appear on the grandstand stage Saturday, Sept. 18; Cyrus performs Friday, Sept. 17; and Clark performs Thursday, Sept. 16.

"We're very proud of the great entertainment we've been able to book this year," said Pete Poe, president of the SEMO District Fair Board. "We thought people would be thrilled to see Waylon after the reception we had for Willie Nelson in '98."

Fans last year stood in line for hours to get tickets to the grandstand concerts.

As in past years, the fair will feature a Demolition Derby Monday, the Outlaw Tractor Pull Tuesday and a Truck Pull on Wednesday. The traditional livestock judging and 4-H exhibits help round out the event.

Other highlights include the world's only camel hitch, Phillips Exotic Petting Animal Zoo, the Fearless Flores high-wire motorcycle thrill show and the Robinson Family Chainsaw Artists.

Jennings has captured countless awards and was the first country artist to go platinum. He has starred in several films and composed the 'Dukes of Hazzard' television theme. His classics include "Good Hearted Woman," "Ladies Love Outlaws," "Amanda," "Luckenbach Texas" and "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line."

Cyrus brought a new dance craze with his "Achy Break Heart." Other hits include "Some Gave All," "Busy Man," "Could've Been Me," "She's Not Cryin' Anymore," and "In the Heart of a Woman."

Clark's hits include "Emotional Girl," "Better Things to Do," "When Boy Meets Girl," "Every Time I Cry" and "You're Easy on the Eyes."

Grandstand tickets go on sale July 14. They can be ordered by calling (800) 455-FAIR or tickets can be purchased at the SEMO Fair ticket office in Arena Park.
