The sale of St. Vincent's Seminary was delayed Thursday, the day the buildings and grounds were supposed to be auctioned off on the courthouse steps.

A small group gathered at the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau for the auction Thursday afternoon. Tom L. Meyer, trustee of the property for the Vincentian Fathers, said the foreclosure on the seminary was rescheduled for Sept. 12 at 3 p.m.

Meyer said the postponement was arranged because Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation, a group that has tried to buy the property for more than a year, can meet the terms of the sale by next week.

Foundation members are attempting to get a $650,000 loan secured by eight guarantors. If they are successful, next week's sale will be canceled.
