"Rape What You Should Know," is the topic of a special seminar to be held at the St. Francis Health Education Centre in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Speakers at the three-hour seminar, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau County Legal Secretaries Association in cooperation with St. Francis, include Detective Judy Gentry of the Cape Girardeau Police Department; Morley Swingle, Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney; Betty Null, victim advocate with the prosecuting attorney's office, and Kimberly Shaw of the Cape Girardeau County Public Defender's office.
Gentry will discuss the procedure followed after a rape is reported, and the ensuing investigation. Swingle will discuss the investigation and prosecution of a rape case. Null will discuss assistance offered the rape victim, and Shaw will outline techniques and possible defenses used in a rape case.
Registration fee is $5, and the program is open to the public.
"Seating is limited," said Glen May, a spokesman for the legal secretaries group. "Pre-registration is suggested."
