Cape Girardeau Airport Manager Mark Seesing recently was elected president of the Association of Missouri Airport Managers.
The state organization provides a forum for discussing state issues and legislation as they pertain to aviation. Seesing said the not-for-profit group lobbies Missouri lawmakers on such issues. Seesing was elected to a one-year term as president of the association.
"It's an information-type forum for airport managers and city managers, and different people associated with aviation in Missouri," he said.
"It's a general sounding block for legislation on issues that relate to aviation."
Seesing said the group now is studying ways to encourage the state to increase funding for aviation, which has received increased emphasis in the past few years. He said the state has allocated more funding for aviation in the past four years than the total allocated in the 40 years prior to 1987.
"Missouri's still a decade behind other states in funding for aviation," Seesing said. "It's something that just hasn't been promoted here. That's what they do in the Association of Airport Managers.
Seesing said he's looking forward to working with other airport officials in the state and meeting Missouri legislators.
"I'm really honored to be named to this association," he added. "I'm sure it will be an interesting and educational experience over the next year."
