KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Renovation work at Kansas City International Airport is running almost two months behind schedule because of increased security measures following the Sept. 11 terror attacks, officials said.

The extra security measures affecting construction workers have included a ban on parking trucks and other vehicles next to the terminals and checkpoints in a restricted work area.

It took longer than expected to get a site for the general contractor's trailer, aviation director Russell Widmar told the City Council's aviation committee on Wednesday.

Airport police have had to make extensive checks of heavy equipment, said a vice president for the Burns & McDonnell engineering firm.
