Police have placed cameras in two locations downtown to provide a broad view of heavily trafficked areas, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The two cameras are at the intersection of Broadway and North Main Street and the north side of the Merriwether Pump Station, according to the release.

Patrol officers will be able to access footage from the cameras on a mobile device, and footage will be available at police headquarters, according to the release.

The Downtown Cape Girardeau Community Improvement District purchased and donated the cameras to police in June, and Old Town Cape Inc. coordinated the donation, according to the release.

Cape Girardeau police and Old Town Cape Inc. formed a partnership in February and at that time were coordinating and implementing additional foot patrols during weekends and special events in downtown, according to the release.
