Cape Girardeau officials have announced that Fronabarger Concreters, a contractor for the city, has completed the second stage of the Independence Street project from Hanover Street to West End Boulevard.
Starting Monday, Independence Street will be closed midblock between Louisiana Avenue and West End Boulevard to just east of the West End Boulevard and Independence Street intersection. The intersection will be reopened the week of Oct. 27, weather permitting. The city encourages motorists to use alternate routes.
The city said businesses along the section will remain open. Comments may be directed to the city's engineering division at 334-9020. The Independence Street reconstruction and improvements are Transportation Trust Fund II projects.
