The second stage of construction of the roundabout at the Route W/Lexington Avenue/Kingsway Drive intersection in Cape Girardeau is scheduled to begin next week, according to a news release by the Missouri Department of Transportation. During this phase of the project, the interior of the roundabout will be constructed.
Overnight Sunday, crews will install signs and other traffic control devices so that they will be in place before Monday-morning traffic.
As work is underway, traffic on Lexington Avenue will be shifted toward Route W, allowing the contractor to build the remainder of the roundabout from the closed portion of Kingsway Drive without affecting through traffic on Lexington Avenue. In addition to the closure on Kingsway Drive, lane reductions on Mount Auburn Road will remain in place. Access to the trail will be available through the parking lot.
Construction of the interior of the roundabout will take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
