NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The search resumed Tuesday for a Matthews, Mo., man who went missing after his boat struck a parked barge.

Authorities resumed their efforts to find Christopher A. Wescoat, 27, who was driving a boat at 7:25 p.m. Sunday when it struck an anchored barge in the Mississippi River near the New Madrid boat ramp. A passenger in the boat, Ronald D. Pipkin, 37, of New Madrid, received moderate injuries in the accident, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

On Monday, while family and friends stood watch along the river levee, rescue crews and volunteers crisscrossed the river between the New Madrid observation deck and the boat ramp in an attempt to find Wescoat. The search ended at dark and resumed early Tuesday.
