Boy Scouts in the Shawnee District will begin their annual sale of popcorn Friday. The sale of Trail's End Gourmet Popcorn runs through Oct. 17.
The sale helps provide supplemental income to finance Scouting activities in the district as well as in the individual units.
Shawnee District President Robert Gardner pointed out that the primary financial support for boy scouting continues to come from community support through the United Way and Sustaining Membership Enrollment program of the council.
"We appreciate the support that our scouting activities have received from the community and want to thank everyone who has participated," said Gardner. "When a scout comes to your door, welcome him. It's some of the highest quality popcorn you can buy."
Walt Wildman, chairman of the popcorn sale, said buying popcorn enables scouts to help their communities.
"Local scouts give a lot to their communities, and by helping to support them you are actually helping your own community," said Wildman.
Last year the Southeast Missouri Council sold approximately 45,000 containers of popcorn and raised over $100,000 for council and local unit activities.
Popcorn can be bought in buckets or a five-pack microwave box for $5; a tin of caramel corn is $6; a 15-pack box of microwave is $10; and a holiday tin of caramel corn is $12.
