The Scott County Commission spent $812,000 less than it budgeted for last year. That excess cash is going to help Scott County with a larger budget this year.
The commission has established its expenditures in the 1996-97 budget at $3,190,952.85 with an estimated revenue of $2,504,000. The $812,552.73 in cash carryover from last year will help the commission, but may not be needed. Scott County Clerk Rita Milam said the county will probably spend less again this year than it has budgeted.
This year's budget is more than $500,000 larger than last year's anticipated expenses. Expenses include: $1,710,522 in general county government, $454,000 to the sheriff's office, $323,280 to the jail and $86,700 for election expenses.
Election expenses this year are estimated to be twice what they were last year.
Public safety has been budgeted a total of $1,215,430, with $866,285 donated to salaries. The county estimates that an additional deputy will be added to the payroll this year, as well two more assistant prosecutors.
The county is expecting to pay $919,677, which will include salary adjustments and the replacement of several bridges. This cost is $25,494.71 more than was actually spent last year.
The county is expecting to collect $238,000 from the sheriff's department in fees, $102,000 from the recorder of deeds in fees, $228,000 from the collector of commissions and fees and $1,390,000 from sales taxes.
