Winter weather won't stop road construction projects in Southeast Missouri this year.
The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department announced contract awards for bridge projects in Scott and Perry counties. The two projects will cost about $2 million combined.
In Scott County, the department will complete the third phase of the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority expansion. A $1,813,000 contract was awarded to Dumey Excavating for the completion of a railroad bridge. It is the third of five projects in the Nash Road extension project.
Construction of both projects will begin in the new year but the Perry County project will be built in stages.
Motorists should expect some delays during the construction of the bridge over Cinque Hommes Creek along Highway 61 in Perry County.
The highway department will replace the existing bridge with a new one. Traffic will be reduced to only one lane during much of the work. Traffic signals will be used while the old bridge is moved and the project completed.
For more information contact the Highway and Transportation Department's district office in Sikeston at 472-5333.
