BENTON -- Election races are heating up in Scott County communities, where voters will choose new board of aldermen and council members as well as mayors this spring.

Tuesday was the final day of filing for the April 4 election.

Three men filed for mayor of Scott City. Mayor Jerry Cummins didn't file for re-election.

Rodney Holloway and Tim Porch are serving as members of the Scott City Council. Pete Sturm is a former city employee.

The mayor is elected to a four-year term. Council members are elected to two-year terms. One seat in each of four wards is open this election.

In Ward 1, Jerry Garms filed. Ward 2 candidates are incumbent Glendella May and Jeff Curnell. Doug Jones, who had filed earlier, was removed from the list because of unpaid city fees. Ward 3 candidate is Joe McDaniel. Incumbent Kevin Gresham had filed but is moving outside the district, so he withdrew from the race.

Ward 4 candidate is Charles Klughart Jr., who was appointed to fill an unexpired term in the ward.

In Chaffee, Joseph Payne filed for the seat in Ward 1; incumbent Robert Sullivan filed in Ward 2; and Robert Harris filed for re-election in Ward 3. Jesse "Jack" Nordin, an incumbent, will face Stan Shields for the seat in Ward 4.

In Oran, voters will elect four aldermen, a mayor and the city collector.

Mayor Tom Urhahn filed for re-election as did incumbent Marcia Roslen, city collector.

Not enough candidates filed for the four seats on the Board of Aldermen. No one filed for seats in Wards 2 or 4. Jean Neal, an incumbent, filed to represent Ward 3. Ronnie Diebold, who represents Ward 1, filed for re-election.
