A Scott County Highway Department employee was killed Monday morning when his vehicle was struck by a train.
The fatal accident was revealed by Scott County commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn while speaking to a group gathered Monday morning for the memorial highway dedication for Irvin Garms.
Boby J. Long, 55, of Sikeston, Missouri, was fatally injured when he drove a 2005 Ford F350 onto the tracks crossing County Road 432 west of U.S. 61, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol online crash report.
The Ford was struck and rolled over by a BNSF train driven by Stan Anderson of Scott City, the report stated.
The signal type at that crossing was a sign only.
Long was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County assistant coroner James Donner at 10:44 a.m.
Long's death was the 25th fatality in Troop E for 2015.
