Members of the Scott County School Board convened Tuesday afternoon for a specially scheduled meeting in which they likely decided whether to suspend one or more students involved in the accidental shooting death of Kaden Robert in June.
Although district officials would not confirm what they discussed at the meeting inside Kelly High School, according to the agenda published by the school district, the bulk of the meeting was a private executive session.
The subject matter was private, the agenda states, pursuant to the Missouri revised statute 610.021(6), which preserves the right to close proceedings about "scholastic probation, expulsion or graduation of identifiable individuals."
The Missouri Safe Schools Act states that, among other offenses, students who possess firearms on school premises are subject to automatic one-year suspensions. But the law stipulates that the final decision rests with the school board and superintendent, on a case-by-case basis.
The families of the two Kelly students were unavailable to comment on any outcome of the meeting or the boys' plans for the coming school year, which begins Aug. 14 at Kelly High.
