A father and son are running for different seats on the Oran Board of Aldermen after late filings for the April elections.

Ronald Diebold Sr. filed for one of the city's Ward 1 alderman seats Friday. His son, Ronald Diebold Jr. filed for one of the city's Ward 2 alderman seats Tuesday, the last day of the filing period.

Half of the board's eight seats are up for election in April, one from each of Oran's four wards.

The elder Diebold will challenge incumbent Ed Evans, while his son will compete against Gil Roslen, Richard Johns and Donald Harris. Incumbent Leroy Eftink did not file for re-election.

Incumbent Ward 3 Alderwoman Brenda Cook was the only person to file for election to the seat she now occupies.

Duranda Cochran and Danny Forehand will battle for a seat in Ward 4. Incumbent Earl Johns did not seek re-election.

In Scott City, voters will face far fewer choices. No one filed for a seat in Ward 1 currently occupied by Jeff Curnell. After the election, Mayor Tim Porch will recommend someone to fill the seat, and the city council will vote on the recommendation. Scott City's only contested seat is in Ward 2, where incumbent John Crail is running against Leann Wilthong. Incumbent John Tyler was the only person to file for his Ward 3 seat, and Larry Taylor was the only person to file for the seat in Ward 4 currently occupied by Norman Brant.

Chaffee voters will choose from four people -- including two current council members -- when they select their next mayor. Candidates include current Ward 2 Councilwoman Loretta "Rhetta" Mohorc, Ward 4 Councilman Jesse "Jack" Nordin, Hope Huey and Ron Davis. Half of the city council's seats are also up for election. Jaeson Fraser will face no opposition for a Ward 1 seat; Jerry Childers and Douglas Sutterfield will face incumbent Debbie Eichhorn in Ward 2; Dean Foulk and Ronald Moyers will challenge incumbent Bill Dysinger in Ward 3; and Larry Springer will challenge incumbent Tom Cunningham in Ward 4.

In other Scott County races:

  • Only incumbents have filed for election in Benton. Joe Stuckey filed for re-election as mayor, Beverly Riley as collector, Howard Bollinger as Ward 1 alderman and David Mack as Ward 2 alderman.
  • Only two candidates have filed for three positions of the Kelso Board of Trustees: Don Reinagle and Bruce Biggs.
  • Two candidates have filed for two positions on the Commerce Board of Trustees: Bill Bailey and Lois Ramsey.
  • Dennis Meier and Larry Brazel have filed for re-election to their seats on the Scott County Public Water Supply District No. 4 board of directors.
  • Three candidates will face no challengers for three positions on the North Scott County Ambulance District board of directors: Lori Arnzen has filed to represent part of Scott City and Commerce, David Dirnberger has filed to represent part of Chaffee and New Hamburg and Michael Westrich has filed for a two-year term to represent Benton and Kelso.
  • Incumbent Dale Schlosser is the only person to file for his seat on the Illmo Special Road District board of directors.
  • James Stallings filed for an unexpired two-year term on the Scott County Health Center board of directors, while Culley Bryant and Mike Tullis filed for two separate four-year terms.
