BENTON, Mo. -- Facebook users will soon have more to like about Scott County.
During their regular meeting Tuesday, county commissioners gave the green light to Amber Scudder, county emergency management director, to establish a Scott County Facebook page.
"I'm OK with having a Facebook page," Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger said. "I think it's a way to get the word out. I think Facebook will get us more hits on our web page."
Scudder confirmed her intention is to have "very little detail" on the Facebook page but will use it to "draw them to the web page for more information."
Burger said he knows people recently used Facebook to contact family and friends in disaster areas to make sure they are OK. He suggested status updates from a county Facebook page would be a good way for Scudder to get the word out about emergency management training and class sessions available to the public such as Community Emergency Response Team training.
The county's Facebook page will have a link to the county's website, www.scottcountymo.com, while the website will have a link to click to add Scott County as a Facebook friend.
Scudder said she hopes to establish the Facebook page this week.
