Scott County will receive $10,000 from the Missouri Agriculture Disaster Relief Fund to repair gravel roads damaged during the spring by heavy rain and flooding.
According to a news release from the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the county's request for assistance to repair the roads is now fully funded. The county is receiving the assistance after applying for a Major Disaster Grant through the fund.
Scott County Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger said in the release that spreading rock onto damaged roads will make the roads safer for the public, schoolbuses and farmers hauling grain and will also ensure that roadbeds are solid for upcoming winter freezing and thawing.
The fund is administered by the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority and provides grants from $500 to $10,000. It was created by the Department of Agriculture this year to help Missouri farmers recover from severe storms, floods and tornadoes. According to the release, donations from MonsantoTaiwan, Dow AgroSciences and others have raised the fund total to more than $175,000.
Applications for disaster relief funding can be accessed online at www.AgriMissouri.com or by calling the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority at 573 751-2129.
