The Scott County emergency management director's nomination to the Seismic Safety Commission has been approved by the Missouri Senate. According to a news release from Sen. Jason Crowell's office, Joel Evans of Sikeston, Mo., was confirmed Thursday to the commission that reviews the state's earthquake preparedness if a major seismic event occurs in Missouri. Evans has experience planning, organizing and executing local emergency management and homeland security activities, the news release said. Evans was appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon.
