BENTON, Mo. -- "Would you like to leave a message on voice mail?" is not something you are likely to hear after dialing the Scott County courthouse.
While County Clerk Rita Milam and county commissioners were presented with a wide range of options for an updated digital county phone system this week, voice mail is one option Milam does not anticipate using.
Bob Kershaw and Tom Griffith of Complete Telecom Solutions in O'Fallon, Mo., explained they contacted Scott County because it was listed among construction sites through a service their company subscribes to.
County officials have considered upgrading the telephone system at the courthouse and judicial building. The new county jail will also need to be tied-in to the phone system when completed.
The digital phone system presented by Griffith to the commission would include three small black boxes for the courthouse and judicial building. One more box for the jail could be added later when the facility is ready.
"It's an expandable system," said Griffith.
