Scott County Commission appoints group to lead 911 consolidation

BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County is moving forward with plans to form a regional 911 center by appointing a group to take the lead.

Commissioner Dennis Zieghenhorn, as well as five other individuals who represent entities in Scott County that would be affected by such a change, will serve on the group.

"This committee is to explore with other groups that were at a recent meeting [held in Sikeston] the feasibility of combining these 911 dispatch centers," Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger said at Thursday's commission meeting.

Also on the committee are: Ron Eskew, city administrator in Scott City; Larry Chasteen of the North Scott County Ambulance District; and Donna Ballard of Scott County's 911 center. As the City of Chaffee also offers 911 services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Burger noted the commission is working to make sure it has a representative as well.

"These are people who have expressed they are willing to participate in discussions and add their input," said Burger. He encouraged any residents with input to share it with one of those representatives.
