SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Scott County Central High School junior is recovering today after suffering a head injury during basketball practice about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

"He was going up for a rebound, and his feet got bumped in mid-air and knocked out from under him," superintendent Dr. Joby Holland said.

Holland said the teen's arm and then head hit the floor, and the boy went into some type of seizure activity after the fall.

A phone call to 911 was made and emergency personnel arrived shortly. The teen was conscious and alert by the time his parents and grandparents arrived at the scene, Holland said.

The teen was transported by helicopter to a Cape Girardeau hospital, where he was kept overnight for observation and was released this morning. Holland said tests came back normal and all vital signs were good.
