SIKESTON -- One hundred students at Scott County Central High School enjoyed good food Thursday when school officials and local businesses treated them to a special assembly for outstanding achievement.

Counselor Don Shaner said all students who had shown good behavior, attended classes and had good grades in the past semester were recognized by the Praise Program.

Students were treated to an international food court set up for the event.

"This is something we do just to show the kids we're proud of them for what they've accomplished," said Shaner. "Only the good students get to come to this because we want them to know we recognize what they've been doing."

Shaner said the Praise Program is a partnership between the school and local businesses to recognize a high standard of achievement, attendance and citizenship. Businesses provide money and other support for the activities. They also invite speakers to talk to students about various jobs.

"The Praise Program provides a solid foundation for an outstanding educational atmosphere at Scott County Central High School," said Shaner.
