CHAFFEE -- The city of Chaffee decided this week that a sidewalk that has been torn up for months should be repaired.
The city sent a letter to Bob Kielhofner of rural Scott City, Scott County's presiding commissioner, to take care of the repairs within 20 days.
The letter says that if the repairs aren't completed by Kielhofner, the city will do the work and bill him for the cost.
Kielhofner owns a warehouse building in the 100 block of North Main Street. Renovations to the outside of the building, which began last fall, and about half the width of the sidewalk have been completed.
The remaining width of the sidewalk next to the street for about 100 feet is still torn up after the old concrete was removed.
Cold weather has hampered completion of the project, Kielhofner said Thursday. In addition, the contractor, Virgil Haney, has been working on other projects, Kielhofner said.
"The contractor said he was going to fix it right away," Kielhofner said.
Kielhofner said he has spent a lot of money fixing the building and sidewalk. He said the sidewalk was in bad shape before the repairs began.
