A Scott City woman died as a result of a two-vehicle accident in Cape Girardeau Monday.

Wanda Lee Fiesler, 85, of 420 E. Maple in Scott City, died from injuries she received when her vehicle crashed with a tractor-trailer truck driven by Paul Richard Counts of Bismark.

The accident occurred at Kingshighway and Highway 74 at 3:10 p.m.

Police said Fiesler's vehicle, southbound on Kingshighway, stopped at the intersection and pulled forward into the intersection where it struck the rear section of Counts' trailer in front of the tires. Counts was westbound on Highway 74.

Emergency crews extricated Fiesler from the wreckage. She died at St. Francis Medical Center at 8:12 p.m.

Counts was not injured.

Fiesler's death brings the 1997 traffic fatalities in Cape Girardeau to three. The other fatalities involved pedestrians being struck by vehicles.

Cape Girardeau County has had 15 traffic fatalities in 1997.
